Irma & Joel | Amore Gardens

When I had the opportunity to shoot Irma and Joel’s wedding, it was such a tremendous honor for me that there was no way I could say no.

I have known Irma for about 18 years, and in that time she has become like a sister to me. Her younger sister, Sonia, was one of my very best friends. Unfortunately, Sonia tragically passed away from Leukemia years back. Though Sonia left the earth far too soon, I have stayed in close touch with Irma and her family, and every time I see Irma’s family, I feel like Sonia is here with us.

That has never been truer than on Irma’s wedding day, which was an absolutely beautiful occasion.

Before I start every wedding, I say a prayer to God that the couple has a beautiful day and that at the end of it all, they’ll be able to look back on this day as the most special day of their lives. During Irma and Joe’s wedding, I prayed for that, but also prayed that Sonia would be with us, making every moment extra special for her sister.

It was so sweet to me to see that Irma had made a special sign that said “In loving memory — the ones we love never go away. They walk beside us even on this day. Unseen, unheard, yet always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear.” Clearly, she was praying for the same thing I was.

As it turned out, the wedding was gorgeous. It was the most perfect day one could ask for in a wedding. The sun was shining, and family and old friends traveled from near and far to celebrate with this wonderful couple at the Amore Gardens, a very lovely venue. The bridesmaids wore light pastel colored dresses, and each groomsman wore bow ties to match each bridesmaid’s dress.

Even though I’ve only known Joel for a couple years, every time I see him I can tell why Irma fell head over heels for him. He’s a smart, kind, funny guy who knows how to make Irma beam and laugh. The two of them complement each other perfectly, and I was so glad to be with them on the biggest day of their lives so far.
