I actually did not get to know the couple in my most recent wedding, Alana and Jon, until the night before their wedding itself, at the rehearsal dinner. It turns out that they are the sweetest couple you could imagine!
The two of them were living in New York, with Alana having just graduated from medical school. Now as a doctor she only has to focus on her specialty, which will be ear, nose and throat. Jon is making the move along with her to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Alana will be doing her residency.
I had met Alana’s mom Peggy previously, a very sweet and kind lady who was incredibly excited for her daughter to be married. I didn’t meet Alana, however, until the rehearsal dinner, and the first thing she said to me was, “My mom has said so many wonderful things about you!” Not only was I flattered, but that made even more excited to do their shoot the next day!
After getting to know the couple, I found out they’ve known each other for more than 18 years! They dated a while years back and broke up, then reunited one summer and have been together ever since.
Even though I only knew Alana and Jon for a couple of days, the love they had for each other was obvious. It could be seen in the way they smiled when they saw each other, the way they acted when they are were around each other and the tears that Jon shed during their vows (a very touching moment). It was such a genuine occasion.
The wedding itself took place at Beecher Hill House, one of my favorite venues. I really love the arbor and columns Beecher Hill House has put in to match the rest of the house, and I was truly honored to be able to photograph the first wedding there since they went up. It made for much more beautiful and elegant photos.
It is always refreshing to see a couple who loves each other so deeply. Congratulations Alana and Jon!
