Momentous Image got to shoot their very first same sex wedding. We were so excited to be a part of such an important moment in Darcie and Sarah’s life. It started off on a bright sunny day in Snohomish, WA. The brides were at the community center with a few friends setting up for the ceremony and reception. Everyone was so excited and smiling ear to ear. After all, this wedding was a long time in the making. After 16+ years of being together, Darcie and Sarah were finally getting married!!
Once everything was set up at the community center, we all headed over to Sarah’s mother’s house just down the road. The house was full of family members and friends getting ready for the big celebration. While Sarah was downstairs getting ready, Darcie was upstairs putting on her dress and her grandmother’s pearl necklace. Once everyone was all gussied up, the two brides came outside for their first look. The brides stood back-to-back, anxious to see each other. On the count of three the brides turned around. They were both so happy to see each other, smiling, laughing and sneaking kisses. It was incredibly touching.
Finally the ceremony came! The beautiful flower girls tossed heart shaped petals onto the hardware floors and the brides walked down the isle hand in hand. Some family friends read a short poem and the brides exchanged their vows. When they finally said “I do” and had their first kiss as a married couple, the audience clapped and cheered!
There was delicious food and amazing home-made desserts by Darcie and her mom. Some of their college friends shared some inside jokes and a hilarious poem during the toast. Then the brides shared their first dance. The rest of the night was a party, filled with dancing, laughing and drinking.
